PITTSBURGH (AP) — A critically burned homeless man ran down a Pittsburgh street covered in flames after police say a cigarette lighter exploded and burned half his body.

Police say passers-by called 911 after seeing the burning man on a street in the city’s Uptown section around 1 a.m. Friday. Brush near an Interstate 579 ramp also caught fire.

Police, firefighters and paramedics found the man about a half-hour later on a bench near UPMC Mercy a few blocks away.

He’s hospitalized there with second and third-degree burns on his leg, arm, upper back and head.

Police did not immediately release the man’s name or age.
