Police say local man impersonated officer
An East Washington man was arrested Friday night after he allegedly told a woman he was a detective and offered to pay her to get information on another woman for him.
The charges against Robert A. Garcia, 30, of 40 North Ave., were later amended to include aggravated assault and resisting arrest after he allegedly tried to headbutt a Washington police officer and fought with another officer and corrections officers as he was being dropped off at Washington County jail to await arraignment.
Police were called about 9:30 p.m. to a home in the 200 block of Donnan Avenue when the female resident reported Garcia was on her porch shining a laser pointer at the home.
When police arrived, they said they also learned he told another woman walking up to the house that he was a “Chartiers-Houston police detective” and a member of the drug task force. He allegedly offered to pay her $100 for information about the woman living in the Donnan home.
Police also encountered Garcia earlier Friday when he called 911 claiming he was being harassed by the woman.
While being transported to the station, Garcia allegedly told police he had not slept for 72 hours while following the Donnan resident, sending her text and Facebook messages.
City police said they were getting Garcia out of the cruiser inside the sally port at the jail when he scuffled with the police and jail guards. They used Mace to subdue him. Garcia was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of lacerations suffered in the scuffle before being returned to the jail to await arraignment.
Garcia also was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on charges of impersonating a public servant, defiant trespass and stalking. Wilson set Garcia’s bond at $25,000. A preliminary hearing is set for April 2 before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
