JOHNSTOWN (AP) – A student at the University of Pittsburgh’s Johnstown campus was charged with raping a female student in her dorm room in January.

Twenty-one-year-old John McGuire, of Landisville, faces a preliminary hearing April 29 on rape, aggravated sexual assault, underage drinking and other charges stemming from the Jan. 18 incident.

University police said McGuire – who was 20 at the time – was watching movies with the woman and began kissing her. Police said she told him to stop, but he became more aggressive, got undressed, and sexually assaulted her.

Defense attorney David Weaver called the charges “very serious allegations that John McGuire denies.”

Weaver wouldn’t say whether McGuire believes the sex was consensual or whether there was any sex at all, saying it’s “very early in the process.”
