Ex-lawmaker serving 2 corruption sentences may be freed soon

HARRISBURG (AP) – A top former Pennsylvania House Democrat serving prison sentences for corruption may be a free man soon.
The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole said Friday that Mike Veon could be paroled as soon as June 18.
The Beaver County Times reports the board cited good behavior by the 58-year-old Veon, as well as his low risk to the community, motivation and taking responsibility for his crimes.
He is currently in the Laurel Highlands state prison in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Veon, the former House Democratic whip from Beaver County, was found guilty in 2010 of using taxpayer resources for political campaigns and sentenced to six to 14 years in prison. In 2012, he was convicted of misusing state grants to a nonprofit organization. He was given one to four years in prison.
