Work on a $19 million project to improve Route 50 in South Fayette Township will begin Monday, weather permitting.

The project includes reconstruction of the road, guard rail and barrier updates, drainage improvement, traffic signal upgrades, debris removal, signs and pavement markings from the Washington County line to Millers Run Road.

Traffic will be shifted onto one side of the road while reconstruction is done. Single lane traffic will be maintained in each direction.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, eastbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane as crews do preparatory work including barrier installation and asphalt work. Once that is done, all traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes while work on the westbound lanes begins.

Work will be done in October. Golden Triangle Construction of Imperial is the prime contractor.
