WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) – The historic Capitol Theatre in Wheeling is getting a new roof.

Work on the $100,000 project is scheduled to begin Monday. The West Virginia Division of Highways will reduce Main Street to one lane through April 17 to accommodate construction vehicles.

The downtown venue is managed by the Greater Wheeling Sports and Entertainment Authority. Authority executive director Dennis Magruder tells The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register that the new roof is expected to last 20 years or longer.

The theater has needed a new roof for several years. A leak developed in February over the upper-floor ballroom.
