BESSEMER (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania school district briefly locked down its buildings as a precaution after a parent bringing an elementary student to school discovered a dead body on a nearby road.
Troopers from the New Castle barracks were investigation and said only the death appears to be “suspicious.”
The body was found near Mohawk Elementary School near Bessemer, about 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.
That happened shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, prompting the lockdown which was lifted about 11:30 a.m.
Mohawk Superintendent Kathleen Kwolek says students weren’t in danger.
Police haven’t released the body’s identity or said how the person might have died.
Police were still at the scene where the body was discovered early Friday afternoon, and school buses might have to be detoured to avoid the scene.
