CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s Board of Governors approved a tuition increase of nearly 10 percent for in-state students.
Out-of-state students will pay nearly 5 percent more for tuition starting in the fall semester under the board’s vote Friday in Morgantown.
In-state undergraduates will pay $672 more per year while out-of-state undergraduates will pay $1,008 more.
The Higher Education Policy Commission must approve the in-state tuition increases.
The Charleston Gazette repored it would mark a 29 percent increase for WVU’s in-state tuition over the past five years.
The board will vote on a university budget in June.
Vice President for Administration and Finance Narvel Weese said the university plans to make $2.25 million in need-based aid available to help offset tuition increases.
