HARRISBURG (AP) – Officials are pressing for safer railcars to reduce the risk of a potential oil train derailment on Pennsylvania’s rail freight system.

U.S. Sen. Bob Casey is in Harrisburg Monday pushing legislation that seeks to get the most dangerous railcars off the tracks.

The measure also would provide safety training to emergency personnel and help prepare communities in the event of a derailment.

Gov. Tom Wolf has said Pennsylvania sees some of the nation’s largest volumes of crude oil shipments by rail, with about 60 to 70 refinery-bound trains from North Dakota’s Bakken region.
