BESSEMER (AP) – Police said a man found dead near a western Pennsylvania school that was briefly locked down as a result was from Detroit and had been shot.

The Lawrence County coroner said the dead man was 24-year-old Frederick Deangelo Swilling.

State police from the New Castle barracks have been investigating ever since the body was found Friday morning near Mohawk Elementary School in Bessemer. That’s about 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.

Mohawk Superintendent Kathleen Kwolek said students weren’t in danger and that the lockdown was precautionary only.

Swilling died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and trunk.

Police are trying to determine where he was in the 12 hours before his body was found, hoping that might lead them to his killer.
