Scrap truck overturns, blocks I-70
A truck hauling scrap metal overturned on Interstate 70 at the junction of Toll 43 (Mon-Fayette Expressway) in Fallowfield Township just before 7:30 a.m. Friday, spilling its load and causing the westbound lanes to be shut down for four hours.
State police said the truck, driven by Nicholas W. Fusco, 52, of Pittsburgh, was driving on the entrance ramp to I-70 from the expressway when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve and it overturned and slid onto the highway. Fusco was taken to Jefferson Hospital with what police said were moderate injuries.
The westbound lanes reopened about 12:30 p.m. One eastbound lane was also closed for some time. Traffic was detoured off the interstate at the Speers exit onto Route 481, snarling traffic in the Charleroi area.
