Fire caused extensive damage to a home in New Eagle Monday. According to New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Paul Pro, the fire at 120 Second Avenue started about 5 p.m. Though still under investigation, Pro said it appears a gas grill on the back porch may have started the fire.

“The tank was blown off,” he said.

According to Pro, the couple that rents the home used the grill about four hours before the onset of the fire. He said the rear section of the home was engulfed in flames and the home is uninhabitable.

“It’s not suspicious,” he said.

No one was injured.

Pro said flames spread quickly because of the age and wooden construction of the home.

In addition to New Eagle, six fire departments responded.
