Toddler found dead in his South Strabane home
A South Strabane Township woman was interviewed by local police after her toddler was found dead in their townhouse Tuesday, authorities said.
The woman, who was not immediately identified by South Strabane police, was expected to be released to her mother later that night, police said.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said the child’s death was questionable, but that he couldn’t rule out the possibility of a natural death until after the autopsy, which was expected to take place late Tuesday.
Police said Washington County 911 dispatched officers to 2112 Shawnee Drive shortly after 5 p.m. after it received a report that an 18-month-old was found dead in a crib in the residence.
The toddler’s mother was the only person in the townhouse at the time, police said. She said she woke up and found her son dead, police said.
Warco said police officers needed to complete their investigation before he would determine the cause and manner of death.
He said he pronounced the boy dead at 6:19 p.m. Tuesday.
“It’s always emotional when a child is involved,” Warco said.
