• Brooks-Crago American Legion Post 816 of Rices Landing will hold a parade and services Sunday. At 1:15 p.m., members will assemble for the parade at the post home in Rices Landing.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the post home and proceed to the honor roll between the Hewitt Cemetery and the Hewitt Presbyterian Church.
Participants will include the Jefferson-Morgan High School band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Rices Landing and the Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Department. State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, will be the speaker for the ceremony, which will include the reading of General John Logan’s orders by Scot Lippencott, legion adjutant, and the reading of “In Flanders Field” by Dean Virgili. There also will be an honor guard and a firing squad.
The invocation and benediction will be by Rev. Geoff Roch of Hewitt Presbyterian Church. Following this service, another service will be held at the Crucible Cemetery Honor Roll.
The American Legion invites everyone to the post home following the services for a light snack prepared by the auxiliary.
• James R. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt. Morris also will hold services Sunday.
A services will be held at 11 a.m., at Kiger Cemetery and include an honor guard and firing squad.At 11:20 a.m. a service will be held at Claughton Chapel Cemetery and also include an honor guard and firing squad.
• The Carmichaels Honor Guard, consisting of members from Carmichaels American Legion Post 400, Carmichaels VFW Post 3491 and Greensboro VFW Post 6303, will have services at the following locations on Sunday: At 11 a.m., a service will be held at the Garards Fort Cemetery with speaker John Brown, who retired from the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer after 25 years of service with the 28th Infantry Division Company Battalion. There will be an honor guard and firing squad.
At noon, a service will be held at the Greensboro VFW Honor Roll with a salute and placement of the wreath to honor the deceased at the monument. An honor guard and firing squad will participate in the event.
• The Carmichaels Honor Guard, consisting of members of Carmichaels American Legion Post 400 and Carmichaels VFW Post 3491, will participate in the following services:
At 10 a.m., a service will be held at the Nemacolin Honor Roll.
At 11 a.m., a service will be held at the Crucible Honor Roll.
At 1 p.m., a service will be held at Laurel Point Cemetery with state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, as speaker. Frank Ricco and the American Legion Post Band will perform.
The invocation and benediction will be by the Rev. Reagan Fike of the First Christian Church of Carmichaels.
Lunch will be provided at 1:30 p.m. at the Carmichaels Legion Post 400 served by the ladies auxiliary.
• Waynesburg VFW Post 4793 will hold a service at 11 a.m. Monday at the post home on Lincoln Street with Terry Hoyle Jr. as the master of ceremonies.
The invocation and benediction will be by Zane W. Mitchell and the national anthem will be sung by Sandra Huffman.
The speaker will be the Honorable Judge H. Terry Grimes, a member of both the American Legion and the VFW posts.
Other participants will include the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Troop 1280; and the Girl Scouts of Greene County.
The VFW post invites everyone to the post home following the service. The auxiliary will provide food and refreshments.
• Filer-Sadlek Post 954 of Jefferson will hold services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mather Honor Roll and post office.
The speaker will be the Rev. Rick Bower of Jefferson United Methodist Church. The service will include a salute to the deceased and placement of the wreath at the honor roll.
At 11:30 a.m., the post will be at the Jefferson Cemetery with a salute to the deceased and placement of a wreath at the honor roll.
At noon, the post will hold a service at the veterans’ section of Greene County Memorial Park, with a salute to the deceased and the placement of a wreath at the base of the American flag.
• James R. Maxon American Legion Post 992 of Mt. Morris will have services at 10 a.m. at Mt. Morris United Methodist Church.
At 11 a.m., a parade will be held from the church to Dunkard Creek, where there will be a salute to the deceased and the throwing of a flower into the creek in memory of those who died serving in U.S. Navy.
At noon, the post will hold a ceremony at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The speaker will be Patrick St. Clair, retired command sergeant major with the U.S. Army.
The ceremony will be followed by the placement of the wreath in honor of our deceased at the monument with an honor guard and firing squad.
