MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – Police are searching for a suspect after a Monongalia County family said their baby goat was fatally shot nearly 400 feet away from their property.

WDTV-TV reported the Nelson family noticed one of their 6-week-old goats went missing from their home Monday.

The next day, a neighbor found the baby goat, named Gilmore, in a ditch with a bullet wound to the head.

Officials with the Humane Society said the goat was too small to be any kind of threat and was shot at a close range.

Heather Severt, the West Virginia State Director of the U.S. Humane Society, says the shooting was intentional and malicious.

The U.S. Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for the arrest and conviction of those involved.
