Splashing into pool season
Public pools in Washington County are kicking off a new season this Memorial Day weekend.
Mineral Beach in Finleyville opened Friday. Admission was free; however, chilly weather kept attendance low. Betty Abel, the pool’s owner, thinks they will see better numbers on Memorial Day, along with many picnics over the course of the weekend.
Admission to Mineral Beach is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
“We haven’t raised our prices in 15 years,” Abel said. She also claimed the pool has “the best french fries in town.”
Mineral Beach will remain open daily until Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Canonsburg Town Park Pool will open Saturday. Borough manager Bob Kipp said the pool is being “super-cleaned” and pool manager Jim Reynolds did a “tremendous job” preparing for summer. He added that “everything is spotless.”
“We’re looking forward to a good season,” Kipp said.
Following Memorial Day weekend, the pool will be closed during the week and open Saturdays and Sundays until June 10, when it will begin to open daily until Aug. 25. The operating hours are from noon to 6 p.m., and admission is $6.
Washington Park pool opens Saturday and will remain open on subsequent weekends.
It will open permanently for the season when schools close for summer.
Washington Park pool is open from noon to 6:30 p.m., and the cost to enter is $5.
