The two men accused of burglarizing a Canton Township home Thursday afternoon were taken into custody after they were found on the porch of a home in the 800 block of West Wylie Avenue where they stopped and asked to use the phone.

Andrew Crowley, 27, of Hickory, and Eric James Pollock, 25, of Burgettstown, are accused of breaking into a home at 2111 Belmont Ave. about 1 p.m. Thursday.

Trooper Chad Weaver said the homeowner, Shawn Eakin, arrived home from work early to find the two inside his home.

“The homeowner took a picture of them as they were coming out the front door,” Weaver said.

Crowley and Pollock allegedly tried to force open the front door but instead crawled though a living room window.

Police said the two stole jewelry, including a diamond engagement ring, cash, a Nikon camera, wallets and iPads. Weaver said the home was ransacked.

“They said they were looking for drug money because they needed a fix,” Weaver said.

State police and Washington officers searched a wooded area in the 2000 block of Jefferson Avenue immediately after the burglary. Chartiers Township police assisted by securing the perimeter.

One of the alleged victims, Aubrey Eakin, 31, will be charged by state police with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police said the items were found inside her purse, which was in a backpack found with Crowley and Pollock. When she came to the state police barracks to identify her belongings, she allegedly told police those items belonged to her.

Police said they found suspected heroin and paraphernalia on the burglary suspects. Crowley and Pollock will be charged later with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.

Crowley and Pollock were arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. They are in Washington County jail on $50,000 bonds.
