A Midway man was killed in a head-on collision early Saturday on Robinson Highway (Route 980) in Robinson Township.
William Robert Fazzolare, 30, of Herron Street, may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the accident, according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco. Fazzolare was pronounced dead at the scene 4:23 a.m.
McDonald police were on patrol in the area about 3:07 a.m. when they received a report of the two-vehicle crash just north of Beagle Club Road.
Fazzolare was traveling south when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Terry Hannan, 48, of Stevenson Street, Midway, McDonald police said. Fazzolare’s vehicle then spun around, and he was partially ejected, police said.
Hannan was freed from the wreckage by McDonald firefighters. A crew from Fort Cherry Ambulance transported Hannan to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. McDonald police said he was released Saturday morning.
The state police forensic service unit is assisting in the accident reconstruction. McDonald police said the investigation is continuing. An autopsy on Fazzolare is scheduled Saturday.
Fazzolare is the ninth person to die on Washington County roads this year.
