Drug charges: A Burgettstown man is in Washington County jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property following a traffic stop Tuesday in Burgettstown by state police. Nicholas Wayne Cumberledge, 27, of 566 Paris Colliers Road, Burgettstown, was taken back to a hotel where he was staying, and police say they discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen fishing equipment there. Cumberledge was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge James Ellis, who set bond at $5,000. Cumberledge has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 1 p.m. June 9 before District Judge Curtis Thompson.
Warrant arrest: Ryan Gill, 25, of 106 W. College St., Canonsburg, was taken into custody Monday by Canonsburg police on a bench warrant issued by Judge Gary Gilman after Gill reportedly did not appear for an April 29 preliminary hearing before District Judge David Mark. He was ordered held for court in his absence on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic violations stemming from a Jan. 13 traffic stop. Gill was placed in Washington County jail on the warrant.
Woman assaulted: Rebeka Layburn of 329 W. College St. told Canonsburg police she was assaulted by her boyfriend Monday. She told police he grabbed her by the neck and choked her. He also allegedly knocked her out of a chair. Layburn said she lost consciousness when he hit her in the face, and that when she came to, he was gone. Charges are pending, police said.
Storage unit entered: Richard Buzard of Washington told North Strabane police Tuesday his storage unit at Racetrack Self Storage, Racetrack Road, was broken in to and two bicycles and a tool drawer containing tools were stolen. He told police he discovered a pillow that had been inside the unit on the outside when he arrived and found the lock broken. He shares the unit with three other people.
Liquor violation: Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, 102 McDowell Lane, was cited last week by the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for furnishing alcohol to a minor. The alleged infraction occurred April 6.
Threats made: Keisha Woods of 269 Lincoln Terrace told Washington police Tuesday she was threatened by a 45-year-old Washington man at her home. She said the suspect, who was intoxicated, told her he was going to get a gun and kill her. Charges are pending, police said.
Hit-and-run charge: Joseph May, 24, of 670 ½ Jefferson Ave., Washington, will be charged by Washington police with leaving the scene of a crash and traffic violations stemming from a hit-and-run crash Tuesday under the Interstate 70 viaduct off Jefferson.
