Waynesburg Central to graduate 126
Waynesburg Central High School will be graduating 126 students on May 29 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
The following eight students are graduating summa cum laude:
Caitlin Brooks, a daughter of Carl and Valerie Brooks. Brooks’ activities include being a member of Alpha Beta, Choral Union, Drama Club, the president of FCA, chief of the newspaper, yearbook staff and Spanish Club. Brooks achieved academic excellence awards all four years of high school, Challenge Program Academic Excellence, Lions Club Girl of the Month and highest honors in ninth through 12th grade.
Brooks plans to attend Waynesburg University to earn a degree in mathematics.
Colby Collins, a son of Scott and Karla Collins. He was a part of the Italian Club, National Honors Society, Ski Club, yearbook staff, the basketball team, the football team and he was the captain of both teams his senior year. Collins was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year award in Greene County.
Collins will attend Pennsylvania State University to pursue a degree in civil engineering.
Hannah Gibbons, a daughter of Robert and Renee Gibbons. Gibbons’ activities include the Academic League, Alpha Beta, National Honors Society, SADD, Ski Club, all-section softball team, softball captain and F.I.R.S.T. Scrabble champion. Awards include all-county rookie of the year as a freshman, Lions Club Girl of the Month, Observer-Reporter First Team softball junior year and all-state PIAA softball. Gibbons plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania’s Whorton School of Business to major in finance and technology.
Caleb Jackson, a son of John and Jennifer Jackson. Jackson’s activities include the Academic League, band, being both the secretary and vice president of the Choral Union, FCA, Nation Honors Society, Spanish Club and being the president of Youth Alive. He was on the honor roll throughout his high school career.
Jackson will attend James River Leadership College to earn an associate’s degree in worship leading. Following that, he will attend the University of Valley Forge for a degree in music business.
Gunjan Patel, a son of Vimal and Digna Patel. Patel served as the treasurer and president of French Club, was a member of the National Honors Society and the treasurer of the Young Voters Club. In high school, he was awarded the Challenge Award for attendance and Lions Club Boy of the Month.
Patel will attend Penn State Behrend and major in biology. He then plans on transferring to the University of Buffalo to earn a pharmacy degree.
Maddison Rhodes, a daughter of Scott Rhodes and Jodi Berry. She was a member of the Academic League, president of the Art Club, Drama Club, the National Honors Society and editor of the yearbook. Rhodes was awarded Lions Club Girl of the Month, Madfest Runner-up Mixed Media Painting and the Scholastic Silver Key Art Award.
Rhodes will attend Washington & Jefferson College to pursue a degree in engineering.
Brittany Straight, a daughter of Franklin and Ruscella Straight. Straight’s activities include the Academic League, band, creative writing, French Club, Jazz Ensemble, the National Honors Society, Relay for Life, Rifle Club, and the Ski Club. She was awarded for academic excellence ninth through 12th grades and Lion Club Girl of the Month.
Straight will attend West Virginia University and major in engineering.
Morgan Summersgill, a daughter of Patrick and Jill Summersgill. Her activities include Alpha Beta, Art Cub, cheerleading, class officer, LEO Club, the National Honors Society, Rifle Club, Ski Club, Spanish Club, Student Council and Track. She was awarded for academic excellence and achieved honors in multiple subjects.
Summersgill will attend Robert Morris University to pursue a degree in biology.
