Bentworth High School placed on lockdown after threat
Bentworth High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning after school officials were altered to an unspecified threat in a bathroom.
Superintendent Scott Martin said the threat was found just before 10 a.m., and that Bentleyville police and Washington County Emergency Management were notified.
Martin said parents were notified of the discovery about 10:30 a.m. through an automated phone call. Parents were asked not to come to the school while officials attempted to determine what was going on, Martin said.
Martin said the building and student lockers were searched and nothing was found. A second phone call went out to parents shortly after 11 a.m. notifying them that the lockdown had been lifted, Martin said.
“There’s not one way to respond to situations like this,” Martin said. “We followed our lockdown procedure.”
Bentleyville police remained at the high school until noon as a precaution.
Martin said there are no suspects and he is relying on students to come forward with information.
