Road rally to benefit Waynesburg police, VFW
WAYNESBURG – Mason-Dixon Jeep Club will hold a road rally and chicken roast to benefit city police and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793.
The “Off Roaders for Officers” road rally Nov. 15 will be a 60-mile drive beginning at the Greene County Fairgrounds that will go through the hills of Greene County, taking some back roads through game lands and making stops at such places as the Mt. Morris truck stop before heading north and ending at the VFW in Waynesburg for the chicken roast.
“There is a common misconception of what a road rally is,” Mason-Dixon Jeep Club President Veronica D’Angelo said. “This road rally will be basically a convoy without any prizes or stops with clues. It’ll be just a nice drive to support our local officers.”
The road rally will benefit the police department and the chicken roast will support the VFW. T-shirts with the slogan “We got your backs” will be sold at the rally as well.
“There is so much going on with the police, so much disrespect toward them,” said D’Angelo, of Waynesburg. “I think that it’s about time that we rally around our local police officers and show them our support and that we got their backs.”
“These type of events are needed with the shrinking budgets now,” Waynesburg police Chief Robert Toth said. “We have to keep moving forward and ensure the officers’ safety.”
Toth said the money raised by the rally will go toward new equipment for the department.
Any vehicle that is road legal is allowed to participate in the rally. Registration at the fairgrounds will begin at 10 a.m. The cost per car entry into the rally is $10, with the chicken roast costing $10 per person.
The road rally begins at noon. Dinner at the VFW will include guest speakers, live music and a presentation of funds.
