Suspended Allegheny Co. worker charged with stealing signs
PITTSBURGH – A Western Pennsylvania county maintenance supervisor has been charged with stealing $21,000 worth of aluminum signs for scrap and been suspended without pay.
Fifty-nine-year-old James Schrott of Pittsburgh has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property by Allegheny County police.
A county spokeswoman said Schrott has worked for the county since 1977 and earned $51,000 a year as a regional maintenance supervisor.
Police charged Schrott after his co-workers set up a sting by marking some of the signs and then tracing them to a scrap yard last month. Police said Schrott has since acknowledged the thefts.
Online court records show Schrott was charged Monday but had yet to be arrested. Those records don’t list an attorney for Schrott, who does not have a listed telephone number.
The signs weighed about 11,000 pounds.
