Former Cecil supervisor dies as son takes office
Frank G. Egizio hung on just long enough to see his son elected to his former position as a Cecil Township supervisor.
The 87-year-old died Wednesday, the day after his son, Frank Egizio, 54, was elected as a supervisor. The senior Egizio died in hospice care after suffering from widespread arthritis and an acute illness following a long career in asphalt work.
“My dad was a great, hard-working guy. At the age of 60 he could outwork 25-year-old guys,” the younger Egizio said of his father. He said his father’s passing was not a shock nor a surprise, as he was suffering from “excruciating pain, and we knew it was only a matter of time.”
“I patterned my life after his values: a great work ethic, and to be honest to all people at all times,” he said. And on his campaign’s Facebook page, he remembered his father for passing down Italian heritage.
“The homemade Italian sausage, which could never be outdone; Italian marinated lambchops and most recently the tripe recipe. However, the most prized you passed on to me was the Recipe for Success,” said the post.
The senior Egizio served five six-year terms as supervisor starting in 1969, using his experience in paving work to help establish a professional road department.
“I feel very honored to take the torch from my dad. I will continue to exemplify what he did and stood for,” he said.
However, Egizio parted ways with his father – a Democrat – in party affiliation. Egizio joins Eric J. Sivavec as the two incoming Republicans who will replace Andy Schrader and D.J. Johnson on the board of supervisors. Egizio received nearly 34 percent of votes, while Sivavec pulled down 27 percent. The two Democratic challengers – Ed Badia and John D. Morrocco – did not receive more than 21 percent of the votes.
