WAYNESBURG – A New Freeport man who pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, the solvent Difluoroethane, was sentenced last week to the county intermediate punishment program.

Steven M. Roberts Jr., 37, of 187 Main St., was arrested May 28, 2014, after being found unconscious at the wheel of his vehicle, which was stopped in the roadway on Route 21 in Franklin Township, police said.

A blood test indicated Roberts was under the influence of Difluoroethane and marijuana.

Roberts pleaded guilty July 14 to DUI, his third or subsequent offense, and two summary traffic violations.

He was sentenced by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to five years of CIP, the first 12 months of which will be served in house arrest with a GPS and alcohol monitoring bracelet. He was determined eligible for work release. Roberts also was fined $3,025 and ordered to perform 225 hours of community service.

In other court matters, John Thomas Cullen, 55, of 8 Iron St., Canonsburg, who pleaded guilty to DUI and nine summary traffic violations, was sentenced Tuesday by Toothman to six month in the county intermediate punishment program.

During the six months, Cullen will be required to wear a GPS and alcohol monitoring bracelet. He also was fined $710 and ordered to perform 90 hours of community service. Arrested July 26, 2014, Cullen had a blood-alcohol content level of 0.122 percent. It was his first DUI offense.
