Remaining a mystery

The Observer-Reporter has been publishing its Mystery Photo feature each Monday for the past four years, but there have been only a few times when our readers could not identify the people, places and circumstances of those pictures. The current Mystery Photo – the 99th – is one of those rare images destined to remain unknown, perhaps forever.

For possibly the first time, we did not receive a single email or phone call from our readers guessing at the identity of the four boys, dressed for what appears to be a skit involving a shotgun wedding. The picture was most likely taken in a school auditorium, judging by the rows of seats, which were unfortunately cropped out of the image that appeared in print on Monday. (The seats are visible in the photo online at observer-reporter.com.) The style of the seats might have sparked a memory here or there.

We did receive one phone message from a reader who jokingly recognized her own 1967 wedding. “That would be me and my husband, who was in the Navy, my dad holding the shotgun because I was already five months pregnant, and the preacher who performed the ceremony,” she said.

Look for another Mystery Photo in next Monday’s Observer-Reporter.
