WAYNESBURG – The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce has selected former Judge William Nalitz for its 2015 Distinguished Service Award and will posthumously honor Donald K. Lindsay with the award.

The Waynesburg Moose Lodge & Family Center was also selected as the organizational winner.

Each year, local residents are invited to make nominations for the awards, which are based on lasting contributions to the community’s welfare, participation in civic organizations, evidence of leadership ability, success in vocation, personal or business progress and cooperation with other individuals and organizations.

Nalitz, Lindsay and Waynesburg Moose Lodge & Family Center will be honored at the chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting and Banquet to be held Sunday, Nov. 22 at Waynesburg University’s Benedum Dining Hall.

Nalitz, who was a lawyer for 24 years and later served as Greene County judge for 17 years. He has been an active member of the Waynesburg Lions Club for 40 years and also a member of St. Ann’s Church in Waynesburg. Nalitz served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and is a member of the American Legion and Greene County Farm Bureau. He also has taught classes through his membership in the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges.

He retired from his position as president judge in January and continues to work as a senior visiting judge in Washington County.

Lindsay was a long-time resident of the Waynesburg community before he passed away last June at the age of 63.

He began working as a produce manager for Thorofare Supermarkets and later worked as a journeyman machinist at Washington Mould and Foundry, and as a quality control manager for Dynamet Corp.

He was also owner and partner in T.L.C. Family Amusement Center in Waynesburg. He and his wife, Jeanette, bought the Waynesburg Milling Company from family members in July 1992. The Waynesburg Milling Company remained his passion as he worked in and served the community he loved.

He served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard 112th Tactical Fighter Group. He was also a Boy Scout leader during the formation of Troop 1280 in Waynesburg.

Lindsay was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waynesburg, and served as a trustee, treasurer of the trustees and dartball coach for the church. He was also a member of Rices Landing Boat Club, and a former member of Waynesburg Lions Club. He was on the 4-H Advisory Board and heavily involved with all the organization’s activities.

The Waynesburg Moose Lodge & Family Center, located at 140 S. Morgan St. in Waynesburg, received the organizational award for the active role it’s played in the community for the past 100 years.

Moose Lodge #461 supports three main causes including Mooseheart, a community near Chicago where children live and learn, receive meals and are provided the care they would not otherwise receive. Secondly, contributions are directed to Moosehaven, a retirement community in Orange Park, Fla., where members of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Women of the Moose reside on a 72-acre campus and are granted access to medical care and other amenities.

Lastly, the Moose makes charitable contributions to local businesses, organizations, and individuals. It also hosts Mother’s Day and Father’s Day brunches, sponsors a Little League team, and partakes in countless projects on an annual basis such as the donation of the Christmas tree displayed on the Greene County Courthouse steps.

Moose Lodge #461 has about 1,200 male members and 400 Women of the Moose members, making it one of the largest lodge memberships in the district.

The public is welcome to attend the banquet later this month and can purchase tickets at the chamber’s office before Nov. 16. For more information, call 724-627-5926.
