SHARON, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has pleaded no contest to promoting “Fight Nights” between scantily clad women in his garage.

A Mercer County judge has sentenced 58-year-old Lawrence Owens, of Farrell, to a year’s probation after Tuesday’s plea.

Owens hosted the events in his garage last November, December and January in his garage. Farrell is about 70 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.

Owens entered the plea to a charge of illegally promoting a tough man contest.

Owens had previously argued that the boxing matches, which took place in a wading pool filled with a small amount of water, amounted to something akin to “mud wrestling” not a tough guy contest, in which combatants try to knock out one another.
