Scenery Hill to relight Century Inn sign
Scenery Hill will relight the sign outside Century Inn on Friday for the first time since the landmark tavern was gutted by fire in August.
The 8 p.m. lighting of the sign will coincide with light-up night in the small, historic town along Route 40, whose shops will have extended hours that day.
“Selective demolition” is nearly complete on the stone tavern dating to 1794, and its owners are about to begin the planning phase for rebuilding the house. They are hoping for a reopening at Thanksgiving next year.
The Aug. 17 fire was sparked by electrical malfunction in a first-floor utility room and quickly spread throughout the 20-room building.
The sign outside Century Inn will remain lit throughout the holiday season.
