Santa is expected to make an early stop in Washington next week to help the city celebrate its annual Light Up Night and Christmas parade on Friday.

Old Saint Nick won’t be the only attraction – there will be hot chocolate and cookies provided by churches and civic organizations, including Life Church, the Bible Chapel and the Rotary Club of Washington.

Festivities get underway at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse, with musical entertainment.

Officials from the Pony League World Series, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, will serve as grand marshals, and light the Christmas tree at 6:30 p.m. The Christmas parade, featuring more than 100 units, will begin at 7 p.m.

The David Bradford House gift shop will be open, and vendors at Main and Maiden streets will offer holiday gifts and crafts, including cigars and food, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Santa Claus will be available to talk with children and pose for pictures.

Washington Light Up Night and the parade are sponsored by the Washington Business District Authority and mark the beginning of the Christmas season in Washington.
