Lions launch poster contest
The Waynesburg Lions Club is sponsoring the 28th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.
The contest is open to any student living in Central Greene School District who will be 11 to 13 years old on Nov. 15.
The contest theme is “Share Peace.”
Artwork must be no smaller than 13 inches by 20 inches and no larger than 20 inches by 24 inches.
The work should not be matted or framed.
All artwork must be the student’s original creation and duplications will not be accepted. Each entry must be the work of one student and only one entry per student can be submitted each year.
All media will be accepted. Chalk, charcoal and pastel entries should be sealed with a fixative spray to prevent smearing. Entries should not be laminated.
Three-dimensional entries will not be accepted; nothing may be glued, stapled or attached to the work.
The use of lettering or numbering on the front of the poster in any language is not permitted. The artist’s signature or initials should be written on the back of the poster.
Artwork should be done on a flexible material so it can be rolled for shipping in a mailing tube. Posters should not be folded.
Peace Posters must be submitted before Nov. 3, the date on which they will be judged at the local level. Posters will be evaluated on three criteria: originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme, “Share Peace”.
All posters must be turned in to art teachers Colby Love and Kristen Venturino at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, or to either school principal, John Lipscomb or Justin Stephenson, at the school office. For further information, contact the Waynesburg Lions Club Peace Poster Chairperson Eleanor Chapman at 724-627-5284.
The Waynesburg Lions Club will award $50 to the first place winner, $40 to the second place winner and $30 to the third place winner. All three will advance to the district level to be judged in November and will possibly advance to compete at multiple district and international competitions.
