Clarksville Lions Club names student of the month

Chase Kovalcheck, son of Joe and Jennifer Kovalcheck of Rices Landing, is Clarksville Lions Club September Student of the Month.

Chase, who maintains a 4.45 GPA, is member of the track team, Foreign Language Club, Envirothon, Science Olympiad, Leo Club president, National Honor Society president, Big Brothers/Big Sister and the debate team.

As a member of National Honor Society, Chase volunteered his time for the “Dance for DJ” lung cancer benefit, helped make invitations for a membership tea and cleaned displays at the Greene County Historical Museum. He has also volunteered at the Humane Society in Waynesburg.

As a member of Leo Club, he has rung bells for Salvation Army and participated in roadside cleanup. As class president during his sophomore and junior years, Chase made Thanksgiving baskets for local nursing homes and put flags on graves for Memorial Day. Chase also helps with children’s church at First Assembly of God of Waynesburg.

He is the recipient of the American Legion Robert E. Titus Educational Award, the George Eastman Young Leaders Award from the University of Rochester, the attendance award in 10th grade from the Challenge Program, and the Penn State 4.0 Club Award in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Chase has also received the Penndel Sectional Fine Arts Award for worship dance, drama ensemble, human video, and choir from First Assembly of God of Waynesburg.

Chase has been included in the Young Leaders Award where he is considered for a merit scholarships valued at $10,000 annually.

Next fall, Chase plans to attend Colgate University as a pre-med student with a major in biochemistry. He then plans to attend medical school to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.
