WAYNESBURG – Even as autumn’s grip envelops the area, the walls of the meeting room at Community Foundation of Greene County are filled with summer.

A collection of summer artwork created by kids who attended Greene County Department of Parks and Recreation’s day camp program this year is brightening up the community room in its Waynesburg office.

“We want to be able to have artwork on our walls that means something to the community,” foundation Executive Director Bettie Stammerjohn said. “This shows the results of one of our grant projects, how it benefitted those who participated.”

The UPSTREAM Summer Art Camp Program is part of the experience kids had at the day camps held at various locations in the county from mid-June until the end of July and are free to all county children ages 5 to 15.

The Monon Center, a Greensboro-based museum and culture center, has partnered with the county for a fifth year to bring art educators to each camp one day a week to teach the basics of design and technique in a fun setting. At this time, the center’s programming is offered as an outreach service, board chair Becky Keck said.

“This summer art program has not only served the children in Greene County, but given emerging arts educators and administrators real-time, hands-on experience working with kids, camp counselors and other organizations,” she said.

Funding for the art enrichment porgram came through CFGC’s Forget Me Not Fund established by an anonymous donor. The show of individual and group pieces opened Tuesday and will be on display until the end of the month.

CFGC, established in 2000, manages about $4 million in assets and provided more than $2 million in grants and scholarships to Greene County organizations and students.

To view the show, call CFGC at 724-627-2010 or stop by the foundation’s office at 106 E. High St.
