Pennsylvania American Water announced Friday its crews would start replacing nearly 2 miles of old water lines in the Mon Valley.

The $1.6 million project is to improve reliability of service and to improve fire protection for residents. The company plans to replace 6,400 feet of aging lines with 12-inch pipes on Grant Avenue in Carroll Township and 3,400 feet of new 8-inch water mains on Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Drive, Glendale Drive and Vine Street in Jefferson Hills.

Officials said they plan to have all work completed by spring. Customers may experience discolored or low-pressure water throughout the work.
