Cal U. student killed in multi-vehicle I-70 crash
GREENSBURG – A 20-year-old California University of Pennsylvania student was killed late Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70.
The Westmoreland County coroner’s office said Aubrey Sonney was fatally injured when the vehicle she was riding in collided with another car near the state Route 201 interchange in Rostraver Township.
Police said the crash occurred about 10:24 p.m. Both vehicles struck the middle concrete barrier, and another car struck the first vehicle from the rear.
Sonney, a Tidioute resident, was trapped inside the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The university said in a statement, “Our Cal U. community is deeply saddened by the death of Aubrey Sonney, a student in the secondary social studies program. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Aubrey’s family, friends and classmates.”
