The heroin epidemic in Washington County will be addressed during a meet the candidates night Monday at Life Church, 100 N. Main St., Washington.

Confirmed candidates to appear at the event, sponsored by NAACP Washington Unit and 7th Ward Neighborhood Watch, are Eugene Vittone and Peter Marcoline for district attorney; Diana Irey Vaughan and Mike McCormick for county commissioner; Scott Putnam for city mayor; Ken Westcott and Georgia Ballentyne for city council; and Linda Clemons and John C. Campbell Sr., for Washington School Board.

David Gatling, vice president of the Washington NAACP, said each participant will give a three-minute introduction, followed by questions from moderator Robert Griffin, past NAACP president, and a five-minute question-and-answer session with audience members.

“One main topic will be about the heroin epidemic through the county and state,” Gatling said. “This is a community-friendly event where people can come out, voice their concerns and ask, ‘What are you going to do for the city and county?'”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the event to begin at 6 p.m.
