A Bulger man is in Washington County jail after police say he sent his father to the hospital with severe injuries.

Charles James Foley Jr., 27, of 132 Foley Road, was charged Friday with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats.

McDonald police received a call from a caseworker at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh about Charles James Foley Sr.’s injuries. Foley Sr. was transferred from Ohio Valley Hospital to AGH.

Police interviewed Deborah Trisell, who helps Foley Sr. on his farm, and said they learned the father and son got into an argument while drinking. Police said Trisell told them that Foley Jr. attacked his father, striking him in the head several times and kicking him with steel-toed boots. Trisell said Foley Jr. also bounced his father’s head off the ground several times.

Trisell said she eventually was able to get Foley Jr. away from his father, who was bleeding heavily from his mouth and head. She said Foley Jr. then ran to the home of an aunt, who came and administered first aid. The aunt persuaded Foley Sr. to go to hospital, where doctors discovered broken ribs and sternum, a fractured jaw and multiple cuts and scrapes, police said.

Foley Jr. was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in the county jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 29.
