Bentworth to renovate high school
BENTLEYVILLE – Bentworth School District will spend $10 million for “mostly behind the walls” renovations to its high school, the district superintendent said.
The project is expected to begin next summer with the replacement of all of the doors and windows in the building dating to the early 1970s, Bentworth Superintendent Scott Martin said Friday.
“The high school definitely needs renovation work,” Martin said.
The district will fund the project under a bond program and won’t seek cost reimbursements from the state. The school board approved the bond issue at its meeting Monday.
The building on Lincoln Avenue also will receive new plumbing and electrical work, and a complete makeover of its kitchen.
“Our machines in the kitchen are very old,” Martin said.
A more secure front entrance also will be created for the two-story building.
“We’re going to do this bit by bit rather than tear up the building when the kids are here,” Martin said.
