Ex-ATI CEO Richard Simmons leaving Pittsburgh Symphony

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The former chief executive officer of specialty steelmaker Allegheny Technologies Inc. is resigning as chairman of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra board later this month.
Richard Simmons, 84, will be replaced by Devin McGranahan at the symphony’s annual meeting Sept. 21.
McGranahan is a director at the management consulting firm McKinsey and Co.
Simmons joined the symphony’s board in 1988 and became chairman in 1989. He left the board for personal reasons in 1997, but returned to chair the board in 2003.
Simmons helped the symphony through difficult financial circumstances by announcing a $29.5 million gift in 2006.
The donation came with certain conditions, and Simmons recently approved releasing the final $12 million of that gift at $1 million annually beginning in the year 2018.
