HERMINIE – Prosecutors filed homicide by vehicle charges against a Western Pennsylvania firefighter suspected of driving under the influence in a February crash that killed a fellow firefighter.

Twenty-nine-year-old Matthew Poston was charged Monday with homicide by vehicle and other charges in the death of 33-year-old Gary Moore.

Police said Poston was driving Moore home from the Lowber Fireman’s Club when his car struck a guide rail and utility pole in Sewickley Township. Moore, an 18-year veteran of the Yukon Fire Department, died at the scene.

Police allege Poston, a member of the Hutchinson Fire Department, acknowledged having consumed four or five beers and at least one tequila shot.

Defense attorney Michael DeMatt said his client was cooperative and voluntarily surrendered to authorities, but he declined further comment.
