Animal activists protest Vick at Steelers preseason game

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Animal activists held a candlelight vigil outside the Pittsburgh Steelers last preseason game to protest the signing of quarterback Michael Vick.
About 100 to 200 people attended the rally before Thursday night’s game at Heinz Field against the Carolina Panthers. Signs included “Real Men Don’t Fight Dogs” and “Hide Your Hounds, Vick Is In Town.”
Vick returned to football in 2009 after serving 18 months in prison for helping run an interstate dogfighting ring. Since then he’s advocated against organized animal fighting.
The former Atlanta Falcons star has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. He says he can’t change the past, but is working to make up for his crimes.
A pro-Vick group gathered at a stadium gate, but police told them they weren’t allowed to stay there.
