PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania teen was sentenced to serve 12 ½ to 29 years in prison for the 2014 shooting death of a man in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty section.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports 19-year-old Copeland Tyler, of Penn Hills, was found guilty in June of voluntary manslaughter in the death of 18-year-old Reginald Turner.
Tyler was also convicted of two firearms charges in a nonjury trial related to the incident.
Prosecutors say Tyler shot Turner, of California-Kirkbride, on Oct. 4, 2014 in the stairwell of an apartment building at New Pennley Place.
Tyler told police a man who was with Turner had shot first, and that he returned fire, killing Turner.
