MARIANNA – A family was able to escape uninjured from a fire that destroyed their home in West Bethlehem Township early Wednesday.

The house owned by Jason Stepps at 11 Wyels Lane was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene about 5:15 a.m., Marianna Fire Chief Mike Rose said.

“It was pretty much a total loss,” Ross said, referring to the small single-story frame structure.

He said the state police fire marshal investigated and determined the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a child’s bedroom. The blaze was ruled an accident, Rose said.

He said the American Red Cross assisted the family in relocating.

Marianna firefighters were assisted by others from Jefferson Township in Greene County, and the Richeyville, Lone Pine, Ellsworth, Denbo No. 6 and California fire departments in Washington County.
