Fayette County man held for court
A Fayette County man accused in the February attack and robbery of a man in Franklin Township will stand trial on all charges.
District Judge Lee Watson during a preliminary hearing Monday afternoon bound over for court Jay Bergman on three felony counts of robbery, along with one charge each of simple assault, theft, harassment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Bergman, 25, of Adah, is accused of beating and robbing Drew Summersgill at gunpoint with two other men while Summersgill sat in his car during the early hours of Feb. 4. Summersgill was robbed of his wallet, cellphone and car keys, state police said.
Bergman’s two alleged accomplices, Austin G. Wiley, 20, and Joshua R. Grimes, 19, both of Waynesburg, pleaded guilty last month to their roles in the robbery.
Greene County Judge Farley Toothman sentenced Wiley and Grimes each to 1 to 3 years in jail, and they were also ordered to jointly pay Summersgill $728 in restitution. Bergman was arrested during a countywide law enforcement sweep the day before the two other men pleaded guilty to the crime.
Bergman’s formal arraignment on the charges has not been scheduled.
He remains jailed on a $30,000 bond.
