RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The N.C. Highway Patrol says a Pennsylvania man attempting to flee from a police officer attempting to make a traffic stop on Interstate 95 was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer.

Patrol spokesman Lt. Jeff Gordon said 22-year-old Mark Malloy of Shavertown fled from a pickup truck after an officer with Selma Police Department attempted to stop him on the interstate and inside the city limits.

Gordon said Malloy drove further down I-95 South on Tuesday before stopping on the shoulder, getting out of the car and running across all lanes of the interstate and into the path of a tractor trailer where he was struck and killed.

The patrol said the truck driver was not injured. Gordon says it’s not clear why the driver attempted to flee authorities.
