Philadelphia artist Andrew Walker is featured at “The River Valley Project” art exhibit that opened Tuesday night at Waynesburg University’s Benedum Fine Arts Gallery.

The exhibit is a two-year mixed media study that explores the impact industry has had on the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia.

Walker’s digitally created images are printed on reflective paper and combine collaged photographs and sketches of the river from many angles, with layers of texture and color taken from photographs of his surgeries to remove skin cancer.

The large catfish installation in the middle of the exhibit stands for a forever-changed ecosystem in the river with the introduction of a non-native species.

Walker said creating the pieces was a personal journey to explore the impact of environmental degradation and the healing process of time on both nature and human health.

The exhibit will be on display until Oct. 9 with gallery hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday,or by appointment. Call 724-823-3274 for more information.
