A Washington County jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision Thursday in a sex case against a Georgia man, prompting a judge to declare a mistrial.

Jury members deliberated for roughly five hours Thursday after a three-day trial for Louis N. Pahountis, 54, of Atlanta.

Pahountis was accused of inappropriately touching a young girl over a three-year period from 2000 to 2003 at a home in McMurray. The alleged victim was 4 when the assaults began, police said.

The girl went to Peters Township police in 2013 to make her allegations. Pahountis was formally arraigned on the charges of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and endangering the welfare of a child in August 2014. He was released on his own recognizance.

His trial before Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle started Tuesday, and the judge made his ruling late Thursday. Prosecutors intend to retry the case.
