POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. – Authorities said they have pulled a man’s body from the Ohio River at the annual Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant.

Media outlets report the crews recovered the body Saturday afternoon at Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.

Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Chief Jeremy Bryant said the man believed to be in his 60s took his shoes off, jumped into the river about 11 a.m. Saturday and never resurfaced.

The man’s identity wasn’t immediately released. Bryant said foul play isn’t suspected.

The annual festival celebrates the legend of Mothman, a mysterious creature with glowing red eyes that witnesses described seeing in 1966 and 1967. It was the subject of the 2002 film “The Mothman Prophecies.”
