A Washington & Jefferson College building was evacuated at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday after a small fire.

According to Washington fire Capt. George McMullen, a fire on the roof of The Commons, the college’s main dining hall, located at 60 S. Lincoln St., started around the chimney of a pizza oven.

“The heat from the chimney set fire to the roofing material,” McMullen said.

No one was injured.

Students milled around outside until given permission to re-enter the building, about 6:30 p.m.
