One of two copycat websites portraying information and logos of Jefferson-Morgan School District was taken down, school officials confirmed Friday.
Athletic Director Scot Moore contacted people running one of the sites this week after being informed by school board Treasurer Cindy Jento at an administration meeting Monday.
The websites were built to solicit advertising money, Jento said.
Jento said the people agreed to “park” the website, which means visitors now see a temporary, blank webpage when typing in the domain name.
“What they are doing is technically not illegal, but it is rude and just wrong,” Jento said.
The second website displays only the school logo and a calendar for athletic events. Jake Single, the school’s technology coordinator, emailed those web designers, but hasn’t received a respond.
Jento said the website with the athletic calendar does not concern her as much as the other one because it wasn’t updated for a couple of weeks.
“As long as it stays the way it is, we will probably just ignore this one,” Jento said. “But I will keep watching it.”
